Impact of SPS Funding Reallocation on Whittier PTA Budget
As you may know, in mid-March the state extended the "Levy Cliff" for one year, restoring $24 million to the Seattle Public Schools budget. Principal Schweitzer was notified late last week that Whittier's budget allocations for the 2017-18 school year have been restored to 2016-17 levels.
A summary of those changes include:
Addition of 0.5 Assistant Principal
Addition of 1.0 Elementary Teacher
Addition of 0.5 Elementary PCP
Addition of 0.5 Certificated Core
Early next week, the Building Leadership Team and Whittier staff will evaluate the impact of these changes on the Whittier budget for 2017-18. These changes will impact the PTA membership-approved staffing grants for 2017-18; an updated recommendation will require a new membership vote. The PTA Budget Committee will work closely with the BLT to understand staff priorities, and to prepare its own recommendation for the PTA Board and PTA membership.
The following timeline outlines next steps toward finalizing updated staffing grants supported by the PTA:
Monday, April 3: BLT Mtg @ 2:25pm, Whittier Library;
PTA Budget Committee Mtg, time/location TBD
Wednesday, April 5: PTA Board Meeting, 6:30pm, Whittier Library
Thursday, April 6: PTA "Special" Community Meeting 6:30pm - 7:00pm;
RULER Family Night 7:00pm - 8:30pm
Please join us in the Library at 6:30pm on Thursday, April 6, to learn more from Principal Schweitzer and to vote on the updated staffing grant recommendation(s). Then, stay afterword and join staff for an interactive RULER workshop to learn about the Meta Moment, a RULER Anchor tool.
