2019 Legislative Overview and Thank You!

The 2019 legislative session is over. I just wanted to give a BIG THANK YOU to those who emailed, texted, phoned, and advocated for legislative policies that would help our kids.

Key K-12 education policies passed this session:

    • Funding for special education, paraeducator training, mental health and safety, and Highly Capable programs.
    • Updating the state's levy policy to better serve students, teachers, and Washington's 295 school districts.
    • Spending roughly $4.5 billion more on K-12 education this biennium than in the last 2-year state budget, including a nearly $1 billion increase for special education.
