    Annual Assessments

Each year Whittier students participate in annual state and district testing to measure academic progress. Assessments are used in Seattle Public Schools to help educators and families measure how students are meeting academic goals.

Seattle Public Schools requires all schools to administer the Measure of Academic Achievement (MAP) for grades K through 2nd. The date collected is a valuable tool for teachers and districts to identify students who need more support. Students will have all the time they need to complete each test.

To learn more, please visit the SPS MAP website. Or to find practice tests on Northwest Evaluation Association's WarmUp Test website.

On the days when your child tests, a good night's sleep and hearty breakfast is always helpful. In addition, we so not want students or families to take on any stress or anxiety around this test. It is taken once a year and is a single data point. We use this test to inform our teaching and determine student needs. All we ask is that students do their best and then move on.

Please feel free to contact Jason Sciarrone if you have further questions.

Students will be taking the MAP in Whittier Library. We designed a testing schedule to minimize the disruptions to the daily schedule. The MAP tests students in reading and in math. Each section will take approximately 30 minutes to an hour.
