    Hello Whittier Families!

I hope you enjoyed this beautiful day!

In May, the PBIS theme is cooperation!  This week the PTA, students and families are collecting food for the Ballard food bank.  This is a great time to cooperate with our community in supporting families that may need additional food as we approach the summer months.  You can have your child bring non-perishable food to school for a donation.

I am looking forward to more sunshine this week.

    • Monday - we will be taking group photos of the Safety Patrol, Unicycle Group, First, Second and Third Recess and Student Council groups.  The photographer will also be taking some action photos that will be used in our yearbook and our slide show at the end of the year.
    • Looking forward to participate in my first Nature Bridge Field trip with the fifth grade class - Wednesday through Friday on the Olympic Peninsula.
    • Third and Fourth Grade Students will start the English/Language Arts Smarter Balanced Assessment this week:
    • On Tuesday and Wednesday - Mr. Peterson, Mr. Ogle and Ms. Maddelford's classes will complete the first part of the ELA assessment.
    • On Thursday and Friday  - Ms. Baldi, Ms. Kemery, Ms. Engle and Ms. Richmond's classes will complete the first part of the ELA assessment.
    • Thank you PTA for the new laptops.  The technology is reliable and accessible for our students in third through fifth grade. This accessible technology makes it so much easier to support student learning and assessments.
    • This Friday  - Whittier's spirit day is SUPER HERO!  This is a day where we are to where are superhero capes and fight for cooperation, inclusion and kindness.  Encourage your child to show their spirit and dress as their favorite superhero!

We have some big field trips coming up...Kindergarten classes are learning about fabric and costumes while the visit and observe the Pacific Northwest Ballet hard at work.  The second grade class is preparing to visit the Nordic museum which supports their Social Studies unit and the third grade class is preparing for a big visit to Blake Island to participate in the customs and traditions of the Northwest Native American culture.

All of these field trips are supported by our generous PTA.

Thanks for all you do and I hope you had a great weekend.
