    Welcome to the 2018 – 2019 school year - #bestschoolyearever!

Tomorrow is the first day of school for students 1st through 5th grade.  In order to have a smooth and productive day we ask all families to follow the guidelines laid out below.

    • Make sure you and your child get plenty of rest and take some time to get prepared for the start of school.
    • Eat Breakfast
    • It will be cool in the morning and warm in the afternoon - dress in layers.
    • Bring your lunch/water bottle
    • Please let your teacher know how your child is getting home at the end of the day.

Students and families, please meet your child’s teacher on the playground before 7:55.  Attached is a map which will help you and your child find the right line.  Teachers will meet you with a clearly visible sign to help you get in the correct line.  On the first day of school, families are welcome to walk with the class to their new classroom.  At 8:05 we will ask all families to leave the building and return for pick up at 2:25.  After the first day, we ask that families do not enter the building with their students. This serves two purposes. The first is to foster a sense of independence and the second reason is to reduce hallway congestion and help us maintain a safe school environment.

Departure/Pick Up: At 2:25 teachers will escort their students to the playground, to the gym (if they are bus riders), or to the designated Whittier After Care.  During student pick up - please remember to respect our policy and meet your child on the play field. 2018-19 Before School Line-up.pdf 2018-19 Bell Schedule.pdf  If your child has permission to walk home, please let your child’s teacher know.  Do your best to be prompt, but if you are late we will have your child sit in the office until you arrive.   Students who do not have adult supervision are required to leave campus by 2:40.

It is important that all students and families are respectful and safe during arrival and departure.  Students should use respectful language, walk safely to their designated areas and keep their hands and feet to themselves.

We are excited for the school year.  This year, all teachers and staff will be working on PBIS in order to help us promote a safe and respectful school atmosphere.  Whittier students will continue to grow and learn to be responsible, respectful and safe young people. As a staff we are committed to teaching and reinforcing these values throughout the school year.  Please view the attached video to learn more about our pro-active approach to positively supporting students.
