Wildcat Recreation with Mr. Pule
This is an hour’s extension of our physical education program once a week that will build on the variety of activities enjoyed in Whittier’s gym program. Program will include individual skills building, small and larger group activities, etc. We may also include skating, archery, bowling, circus arts and other interests over the 10 classes.

Yoga After School with Ms. Kemery
Yoga provides an opportunity for students to further their mental and physical capacity through breath exercises, postures, balancing, and meditation. The benefits of yoga can help children concentrate and regulate their emotions, all while being physically active.
Wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat (let us know if you will need to borrow one).

Coding with Kids
GAME DEVELOPMENT / BEGINNER-INTERMEDIATE
This course introduces kids to computer programming through the fun and excitement of building video games. Working in Scratch, a drag-and-drop programming tool, students will create everything from animations to multi-level games. Beginner Students will learn the core concepts of programming a game, such as loops, conditionals, and variables. Intermediate Students will level-up to more complex concepts, like nested conditionals and functions with parameters. Projects are updated each session, so returning students will have new challenges to work through and advance their creativity and knowledge to the next level.

LITTLE CODERS
Get them started early! The Little Coders class provides young students with the basics of computational thinking skills, such as loops and conditionals, through a fun blend of hands-on activities. The curriculum is built specifically for this age group, with a mix of activities from coding puzzles and board games to easy-to-use, drag-and-drop programming tools. Projects are updated each session, so returning students will have new challenges to work through and advance their knowledge.

By the end of this school year, these students will, at minimum, be able to understand familiar words, basic phrases, and commands. They will also be able to use short, practiced phrases to speak about themselves, their families, and their surroundings. New and returning students are welcome!

Chess 4 Life (Wednesdays)
This class is for any student interested in learning or increasing his or her knowledge of chess. They cover principles of chess, both basic and advanced for players of all levels. The classes are taught by experienced Chess4Life chess coaches. All of the coaches work closely with National Master Elliott Neff and follow the Chess4Life curriculum designed by Elliott.

Minecraft Engineering with LEGO® Materials
Bring Minecraft to life using tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Build engineer- designed projects such as a motorized Creeper, a portal to the Nether, and a moving Minecart! Create your favorite Minecraft objects with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor. Whether you are new to Minecraft and the LEGO® building system or a seasoned veteran, you'll be hooked on the endless creative possibilities.

Robotics using the LEGO® WeDo® System
Build and program robots in this introductory Robotics class using the LEGO® WeDo® system. Learn basic programming skills, simple engineering concepts, and the names of robot components. Work in small groups to complete several projects using tilt and motion sensors. This is a great way to prepare young Robotics enthusiasts for our more advanced Robotics programs.

Machine Sewing @Whittier

Machine Sewing (8-12yrs) - 12595
No experience necessary for students to learn the basics and beyond. New students will learn machine safety and beginner sewing tech- niques, while the more experienced students can expand on skills they already have. The class will begin with a simple project, then students will advance at their own pace to more exciting and chal- lenging projects throughout the session. This class is designed to teach children with both beginning and advanced skills. Projects are constantly rotating during the quarter and include backpacks, phone cases, clothing, accessories, bags, games, stuffed animals and more! *For all new sewers, the first class of the session is mandatory.

Beginner Hand Sewing and Crafts (5-7yrs) - 12596
Learn the basics of hand sewing, knitting, crafting and weaving in this new class, created to introduce our younger students hand sewing and different types of fiber arts! Boys and girls will learn basic hand sewing techniques, from threading needles and tying knots, to several types of stitches. Students will also create fun projects that explore their craft skills. New projects each quarter, ranging from embroidery, hand sewn puppets, accessories, pillows, woven rag rugs and more! This class will build fine motor skills, finger dexterity, and most important, it will give their creative muscles a work out! All supplies included, let’s get creative!

Join One on One Basketball this semester for After School Hoops®, an ideal after school activity for aspiring athletes. Bas- ketball is a unique sport that combines upper and lower body motor-skill learning with an intense cardiovascular workout. Our organization has decades of experience teaching this sport in a motivating, inclusive and age-appropriate manor. After School Hoops® makes three guarantees: your child will learn, sweat, and have fun!
